How to Stand Out This Christmas

Just a couple of weeks ago, my email inbox was flooded with Black Friday sales. Every store or company I’ve ever interacted with in any way—and some that I haven’t—sent me emails about their discounts, sales, and specials. Clothing retailers, toy stores, restaurants, and even home repair companies that provide gutter services or plumbing help jumped on the Black Friday bandwagon!

The problem with everyone saying the same thing is that no one is saying anything. And instead of anyone getting through, the customer tunes everyone out. If you want to stand out this Christmas, you can’t do what everyone else is doing. You’ve got to do something different.

For example, our company decided to offer a giveaway of $100,000. So when you see our marketing messages, they sound different. We aren’t asking you to buy something. We’re telling you we want to give you something. We’ve found a way to talk to our customers during a busy time in a unique way.

This Christmas, as you develop your marketing messages, don’t try to do what everyone else is doing. Think of a way to do something different.

Is everyone asking for something? Maybe you give.

Is everyone giving a percentage off? Maybe you create and add on.

Is everyone else sending emails? Maybe you create a fun or funny video to share.

It doesn’t matter what you choose to do. It just matters that you don’t do what everyone else is doing.

So the next time you’re going to talk to your customers, you can stand out during this busy season by simply saying something different.
