Show Notes

Finding your business idea can be a daunting task, but I’m going to make it a whole lot easier. In this episode, I’ll focus on you Dreamers out there. We’ll identify your strengths and help you zone in on your best idea.

My guest this week is blogger and friend of Business Boutique, Jess Connolly! Her business was born during a time when she and her family were struggling. She’ll talk to us about how she got her business idea, how she decides what to write about, and her strategy for making money blogging.

Plus, I’ll answer business questions that you’ve submitted!

  1. Melanie says:

Thank you so much for doing this podcast and your upcoming digital mentoring course. I am definitely a dreamer but haven’t had any idea what I should do for my business. I discovered you late last year and have eagerly been listening, waiting, and hoping for something to help me get started. When something about the digital mentoring course popped up in my Facebook feed I jumped at the opportunity and signed up prior to listening to this podcast. Is there any way I can still get access to the personality test even though I’ve already signed up for the course? I think it would be great information to have.

    1. Hi Melanie –

I’m so excited to have you for Digital Mentoring! You’re going to love it. Don’t worry, you’ll get information about the DISC test prior to our first class.

    Hey Christy!

This was a great episode. A friend of mine who went to your Denver event and runs a photography studio told me I had to listen to your podcast. Great recommendation!

So the homework for this episode:

I’ve come up with some business ideas and I’m not sure which one to try first. Maybe someone out there has some advice or insight?

    1. I started an Etsy store selling digital downloads of verses and uplifting quotes…much like Jess’s business…so one of my ideas is to beef up the store, create a web store outside of Etsy, and start marketing the idea through a blog, social media, etc. (
    2. My background is in graphic design…mostly in non profits…and I thought of creating a web resource for non profits who can’t afford a designer
    3. A web resource to help people work with volunteers
    4. Music education resource for home schoolers (with the help of my husband who is a music educator)

Anyway, love the podcast…it’s been inspiring especially to hear stories of how people have made it happen. Thanks for the resource!

  3. Bridget says:

Is there a Facebook group for Business Boutique women to connect? If so, would it be ok to start one? Would anyone else be interested? It seems that it would be a great and easy way to get involved in the Business Boutique community and to connect with other women.

    1. Hi Bridget – We actually have a booming Business Boutique Community here on the website! Please check it out, set up your account, and use it as a resource and a way to connect with other BB women just like you 🙂 Here’s the link:

  4. Christine says:

I just found Business Boutique and you are providing great content! I’m a dreamer and working on that idea! Entrepreneurship is in my blood!

I am trying to get to the free DISC assessment but unable to access it. Can you include the direct link?

  5. Myra Kaelin says:

So I *just* listened to the January 10 podcast (behind much?) and heard about the Digital Mentoring for dreamers, logged on immediately, and registration closed last night! Is there a plan to do another session for dreamers? I’m so mad that I didn’t listen sooner!

  6. I love to be creative and designing. I have always loved interior design and I love my dog Sadi who is a Husky/German Shepard mix. So I have come up with an idea to make interior design for owners and their furry friends. It will be designed for animals with chic style for us. It will be marketed toward pet owners who want that real interior design, but need easy to clean decor. Weather it’s an oopsy or shedding it will be easy to clean and pet friendly. My first project will be a pet friendly, easy to clean, and NON-slip rug. A non-slip rug so your furry friend does not slip, fall and hurt themselves while running through the house or jumping around. This non-slip rug will be perfect for tile, hardwood, and linoleum flooring where your loving pet is more vulnerable to slip and fall. So I am going to get a small amount of product to start. How would I get my product out to my pet lover target market? Is Etsy the best place for this? How do I get started selling my product?
